Macklin Lakers cap stellar 2025 with provincial win in Carnduff
The Macklin Lakers capped off their championship season with a long road trip and a big win, taking home gold at the Baseball Sask Tier 3 provincials in Carnduff. After dropping a round-robin game to the host Astros, the Lakers bounced back in the final with a 10-6 victory — their second title in just five days. A standout performance from young pitcher Hudson Krieger helped seal the deal, as Macklin wrapped up a nearly perfect season with both league and provincial trophies.
Kindersley Surge swim club makes big splash during 2025 season
The Kindersley Surge Swim Club capped off its 2025 season with seven swimmers reaching provincials and strong performances across the board. Despite challenges with accommodations in Watrous, the team made the most of the experience. A season wrap-up is planned for late August, and the club is looking to add more coaches ahead of next year due to growing interest.
Klippers pre-season starts August 29 in Drumheller
The Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League released its pre-season schedule, and the Kindersley Jr. Klippers hit the ice starting August 29 on the road against Drumheller. They’ll play five pre-season games before the regular season kicks off September 19 against the Battlefords North Stars. The Klippers are led this year by new head coach Kyle Schneider, assistant coach Ben Marshall, trainer Jayden Villafane, and newly promoted GM Ryan Gibson, all aiming for a strong 2025-26 season.
West Central well represented at Canada Summer Games
The 2025 Canada Summer Games kicked off last Friday in St. John’s, Newfoundland, showcasing top young talent from across the country. West Central Saskatchewan is well represented, with athletes like Eryn Kielo in women’s steeplechase, Adriann De Necker in men’s rugby sevens, and Hailey Burton in women’s softball. Team Saskatchewan has 377 athletes competing across 19 sports, aiming to improve on their 32 medals from 2022. So far, Regina’s Baer Robertson earned bronze in canoe kayak, with more exciting competitions ahead over the next two weeks.
McGrath's "dream come true" continues with 2025 Mental Health Classic
Kindersley native and Saskatoon resident D Jay McGrath’s Mental Health Classic 3v3 hockey tournament wrapped up another successful year this summer. What started as a small hometown event three years ago has grown to over 200 players, with proceeds supporting hockey families struggling financially. McGrath credits local sponsors, volunteers, and guest speakers—including NHL connections—for making the event possible. Now focused on mental health advocacy and speaking engagements, McGrath looks forward to returning to Kindersley this season to continue spreading the message that “it’s okay to not be okay.” Next year’s tournament is set for August 8-9, 2026.
