On Aug. 12, 2025, at approximately 3:10 a.m., Peace River RCMP responded to a complaint of an individual having been shot in the downtown area of Peace River. The individual was conscious at the time of police and EMS attendance. The adult male victim was admitted to the hospital. Tragically he succumbed to the injuries the following day and was pronounced deceased at the hospital. Alberta RCMP Major Crimes Unit (MCU) was called in to investigate at the time of admittance to hospital and maintained carriage of the investigation.

August 14, 2025, the Officer of the Chief Medical Examiner in Edmonton completed an autopsy where the cause of death was determined to be homicide caused by a firearm.

The deceased has been identified as Anton Vincent Carifell, a 35-year-old resident of McLennan, Alberta.

Alberta Major Crimes arrested and charged Kelleo Alook a 25-year-old residence of Peace River, Alberta. Alook has been charged with:

  • Manslaughter
  • Firearms related offences
  • Pointing a firearm
  • Assault with a weapon

Alook is remanded and scheduled to appear in the Alberta Court of Justice August 18, 2025.
