As of 10:30 a.m. on Monday, Saskatchewan has 69 active wildfires, with seven contained, eight not contained, 36 under ongoing assessment, and 18 focused on protecting values, the province reported.
Improved weather conditions have reduced the immediate threat of wildfire, and no communities are currently under evacuation orders. All highways remain open. Orders have been lifted for the Northern Hamlet of Jans Bay, Patuanak/English River First Nation, La Plonge Reserve, and priority residents of the Northern Village of Beauval.
The Saskatchewan Public Safety Agency has distributed over $5 million to support evacuees and residents in recovery. Cheques of $500 have been provided to residents over 18 in Denare Beach and other affected areas. In addition, the provincial government has dedicated $15 million to the Canadian Red Cross to provide further financial support to wildfire evacuees.
Overall, the government has committed $20 million to aid communities impacted by this year’s wildfires, focusing on rebuilding and recovery. The Recovery Task Team (RTT), which includes representatives from the Public Safety Agency, the Ministries of Government Relations, Social Services, Environment, and SGI, is working with communities on debris removal, landfill impact reviews, project management, interim housing, and connecting residents to support services.
The RTT has helped establish a Community Resiliency Centre in Denare Beach, supported debris management, and removed hundreds of lost vehicles. Authorities say the task team will continue working with communities to identify material and policy measures to aid in ongoing recovery.
For more information, residents are encouraged to follow updates from the Saskatchewan Public Safety Agency and local municipal offices.
