One dead after crash on Highway 1

One person is dead after a car crash on Highway 1.

According to Strathmore RCMP, the crash was on Monday (Aug. 18) at the intersection of Highway 1 and Wheatland Trail between a semi truck and an SUV.

"As a result of the collision, the semi caught on fire," wrote Strathmore RCMP. "A passenger was able to exit the semi; however, the driver was trapped."

The driver died at the scene and was identified as a 24-year-old from Brampton, Ont.

"The passenger and driver of the other involved vehicle were uninjured," added police.

The cause of the collision is still under investigation.
