A special announcement from the Saskatchewan Roughriders last week likely caught the attention of West Central football fans.

The Roughriders are "thrilled to announce" that for the first time since 1991 a pre-season game will be held in Saskatoon at the University of Saskatchewan, digs the Riders already know well with Griffiths Stadium being the home of training camp.

“None of this would have been possible without the support of some incredible partners, as it is a Herculean effort to move our game-day operations from Mosaic Stadium to Griffiths Stadium,” said Saskatchewan Roughriders President and CEO Craig Reynolds. “We are grateful for the support of Tourism Saskatchewan, the City of Saskatoon, Discover Saskatoon and the University of Saskatchewan for jumping in wholeheartedly to support us and make this special day a reality.”

The full release can be found HERE, with statements from the provincial government, City of Saskatoon, U of S, Discover Saskatoon, and the team itself.

The release stated that tickets for the game will be sold separately with details expected at a later date, and that the date of the game will be unveiled along with the complete 2026 season schedule in the offseason.

Cutting a few hours off the road trip, people from around West Central often dream about the Roughriders being in Saskatoon. Those dreams will become somewhat of a reality next spring; will you be there?
