After a rainy Tuesday postponed two of their games, Saskatchewan men's softball team is in for a busy opening day of competition at the Canada Summer Games in St. Johns, Newfoundland on Wednesday.

The team, featuring Delisle's Jordan Durham on the roster, takes the diamond this morning against Alberta for their regularly scheduled game. In the afternoon they will face Quebec, before playing their first rescheduled game against Manitoba.

Two games on Thursday will pit Saskatchewan against Nova Scotia in the afternoon, and Newfoundland in the evening. Friday then opens up with the other rescheduled game against New Brunswick, before a quick turnaround against BC, and then Sask. will cap off another three game day against Ontario Friday afternoon to wrap up the prelims.

Lucky Lake native Kash Meyers and the mens' volleyball team went undefeated against Newfoundland and as they opened competition from The Works Field House.

Other local athletes in competition today include another Delisle native, Eryn Kielo, racing in the 3000m Steeplechase. Wrestling also starts with Rosetown's Neda Robertson and Wilkie's Avi'endha Beaugrand representing two more local athletes.

They are pursuing more medals towards Saskatchewan's current total of eight, increased by two just this morning as divers Lila Stewart and Isa Koop earned gold and silver in the Women's Artistic Dive event.

Adding to that total was a silver medal finish on Tuesday from Nathan Pinno in men's Shot Put, and another silver from David Lipton in men’s Para Shot Put. Last week both the men's baseball team and women's beach volleyball team won bronze, another bronze coming for Baer Robertson in canoe/kayak.

Saskatchewan's only other gold medal came courtesy of Leo Zheng in para-mens swimming.
