As the leaves change colour and the trees begin to prepare for fall, the Strathmore area is gearing up for the start of school-year programs.
With classes beginning on Aug. 28 and Sept. 2, programs including swimming, volleyball, and ringette are also getting underway.
Here are some of the activities residents can start registering in:
Strathmore Silver Sharks
The Strathmore Silver Sharks Swim Club is hosting a tryout night at the Strathmore Civic Centre swimming pool on Tuesday, (Aug. 27) from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m.
The tryout is open to all ages, though participants must be able to swim the length of the pool.
Booking is required. Spots can be reserved by contacting the coach at coachjessica@strathmoresilversharks.ca.
Chaos Volleyball
Though the start of the school year can be chaotic, Chaos Volleyball club has its tryout schedule clearly laid out.
Tryouts for players aged U13 to U17 will take place at Strathmore High School on the following dates:
- U17: Sept. 7
- U16: Sept. 14
- U15: Sept. 21
- U14: Sept. 28
- U13: Oct. 5
All the tryout dates are from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Registration is required.
Strathmore Minor Ringette Association
The Strathmore Minor Ringette Association is helping athletes prepare for the upcoming season with a series of Rust Bust sessions. These are intended to get players back into form ahead of official practices.
Sessions will be held at Indus Recreation Centre, the Chestermere Regional Community Association (CRCA), and Strathmore Family Centre.
Individuals in the U12 category will have two Rust Bust sessions on Sept 2 from 5 to 7 p.m. and from 6:15 to 7:15 p.m., both at the Indus Recreation Centre.
The first session for the U14 players will be on Aug. 24 from 6:45 to 7:45 p.m. at the Strathmore Family Centre. The second session is on Sept. 2 from 7:15 to 8:15 p.m. at the Indus Centre. The last session concludes on Sept. 3, from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. at the CRCA.
On Sept. 2 from 6 to 7 p.m., the U16 category will have their first session, with its second session starting from 7:15 to 8:15 p.m. at the Strathmore Family Centre.
U19 sessions will occur on Aug. 27 from 7:45 to 8:45 p.m. at the Strathmore Family Centre and Sept. 6 from 4:30 to 5:30 p.m. at the CRCA.
All U12 to U19 goalie players will also be able to brush up on their skills on Aug. 24 from 2:45 to 3:45 p.m. at the Strathmore Family Centre.
Whether it's in the pool, on the court, or on the ice, Strathmore athletes and students have plenty of ways to get active and dive into recreational activities this fall.
