The Kindersley RCMP is highlighting crime reduction efforts and community engagement in Eston and the Rural Municipality of Snipe Lake following its quarterly report for April through June.
Staff Sgt. Andrews said the detachment carried out 45 proactive patrols in the region over the three-month period, including 35 in Eston and 10 in the RM of Snipe Lake. Officers also conducted eight targeted patrols near Eston School to monitor traffic during student arrival and dismissal times.
“Visibility in the community is important,” Andrews said, noting officers also took part in local events, including graduation, and continue to volunteer in sports programs. Const. Mike Hill, who lives in Eston, coaches local softball.
The report also addressed property crime, identified as the community’s top concern. Four break-and-enters were reported in Eston on June 2, all linked to the same prolific offender who was later identified. RCMP say the individual does not live in the area and charges are pending. No further break-and-enters have been reported since.
Between April and June, RCMP conducted 67 nighttime patrols aimed at deterring property crime. Officers also carried out 17 sobriety checks, resulting in one impaired driving charge.
In total, Kindersley RCMP responded to 987 calls for service over the quarter, 43 of which were in Eston or the RM of Snipe Lake. Those included two serious violent offences, four property crimes and several mischief-related files.
The detachment also announced that a new officer, Const. Michael Durant, will be stationed in Eston beginning in mid-November. Andrews said Durant, a former hockey referee, will be active in the community as part of his policing role.
Residents were reminded to lock homes and vehicles, avoid leaving keys in cars and report suspicious activity.
