Farmers in Brooks and the surrounding area are now focused on recovery after a severe thunderstorm.

The storm roared through Brooks, Newell County and nearby communities Wednesday (Aug. 20) evening, leaving behind widespread destruction. Multiple farms, including White Barn Fun Farm, are now facing significant losses.

Amid road closures, downed power lines, and damaged vehicles, families and farmers are also dealing with personal property losses.

"It collapsed fences, shattered windows, lifted up equipment, and ripped giant trees right out of the ground — the very trees our animals had taken refuge under," White Barn Fun Farm wrote in a Facebook post.

The storm, with strong winds and hail, damaged more than just property.

Two of the farm's animals died during the storm: a five-year-old camel named Stoli and a nine-year-old pony named Butterscotch.

"In the aftermath, we lost two of our most cherished friends," the post continued. "At this point, we don’t know how to carry on without them. They weren’t just animals, they were family, bringing joy and light to everyone who came through White Barn Fun Farm."

The farm, known for offering guided tours and hands-on animal experiences, is now asking for the community's prayers and support as it begins the long road to recovery.
