Combines are starting roll, taking off this year's crops for the Canadian Foodgrains Bank.
Regional representative, Dale Friesen, says the earliest combine that he's aware of headed out about two weeks in the Interlake. As for areas south of Winnipeg, Friesen says volunteers have been going steady for about a week or two.
"I think some of it has just been the timing of the rain as opposed to when. I think some of them also got their crops in nice and early this year," explained Friesen.
As for how the crops looks, Friesen says it's a mixed bag across Manitoba.
"I've had some tell me this could be their best crop ever and some say there's not much of a crop this year."
For example, a field of peas grown by the Rock Solid group near Stonewall, only saw two inches of rain this year with most of it late in the season. However, in the Winkler area, Friesen says he's hearing of quite nice crops.
Friesen will be stopping by the various harvests in Manitoba this fall and says it's a great opportunity to thank the volunteers for their dedication and sacrifice, and to teach people about the impact the projects will have.
