La Broquerie Helping Hands has recently seen the need for hampers rise significantly in the communities they serve.
The organization was able to move into a new building last year, and since that time their list of recipients has doubled. Right now, they are experiencing a lull in donations, and have put out an ask to the community for the following items:
-Pasta sauce
-Rice
-Pancake mix
-Zoodles
-Sidekicks
-Canned tomatoes
-Canned fruit
-Almond milk
A growing need
Jocelyn Gauthier is a member of the board for La Broquerie Helping Hands. She says that at this time, they are handing out 95 hampers every two weeks throughout La Broquerie, Marchand, and Woodrige. This is a significant jump from last year:
"When we started this, we were not in our own location, but we were about 34 hampers, and then when we moved into our new location in October of last year we were at 45, and now we're up to about 95, so we've doubled."
School lunches
La Broquerie Helping Hands also provides lunches for kids in school. As they gear up for the back to school season, they will be in need of non-perishable, nut-free items. Some suggestions Gauthier gives include fruit snacks, granola bars, cookies, and pudding cups.
How to donate
Non-perishable food donations can be dropped off directly at the La Broquerie Helping Hands building. Additionally, they have a donation bin located at Rona. Gauthier also said they were excited to announce that as of today, there will be donation bins at the La Broquerie Co-op, and the Marchand grocery store.
Monetary donations can be made in person at their office, or online at www.labroqueriehelpinghands.com.
