It's about to get hot in Strathmore and the surrounding area.

Environment Canada (EC) issued a Special Weather Statement for Wheatland County on Sunday (Aug. 24). The statement also affects Strathmore, Lyalta, and Carseland.

"A long-duration heat event is expected over the next seven days," wrote Environment Canada. "Daytime high temperatures between 29C and 33C are expected beginning today for communities over central and northern Alberta, and will expand to include portions of southern Alberta starting on Monday."

The group added that overnight lows will range between 9C and 13C, offering some relief from the heat.

"However, because the event is expected to last for five to seven days, there is a concern that the effects of the heat could build up over time," added EC.

Those affected by the heat wave are asked to check for signs of heat exhaustion, such as headache, nausea, dizziness, thirst, dark urine, and intense fatigue.

"Heat warnings may be expanded in the coming days as the event unfolds."
