A local fair for kids, by kids, took place in downtown Strathmore last week.
On Friday (Aug. 22) afternoon, the Sacred Heart Catholic Church held its first-ever Youth Fair, which included bounce castles, stickers, face painting, and other activities.
The event was put together by Sadie Goodfellow and Lily Macleod, two young girls with a passion to bring a free event to the community
"Our church has a youth program and both of us are in it," said Macleod. "So, we wanted to expand that, since this was the first year of the program. We wanted to make it special and have our own fundraiser, not just for the youth, but for everyone in Strathmore."
It took several months of work for the girls to put the event together. They gathered all of the activities and movies, with residents putting in a helping hand by donating games.
"We took a couple of months between us and brainstormed," added Goodfellow. "We thought of things we wanted and how long we wanted it to go on for."
For a first-time event, the girls were pleased with the turnout.
"We were going to have a dunk tank, but that was too tight on our budget, so we had a friend who built a mechanical dunking machine for us, and we think that attracted a lot of people," added Macleod.
Funds raised during the fair went back into the church's youth program.
