Brooks RCMP have given an update on the crash that happened on Highway 1.

The crash was on Monday (Aug. 25) morning near Range Road 131. According to police, they discovered a damaged, abandoned vehicle as they arrived at the scene. On the side of the road was a dead body.

"Initial investigation has determined that the deceased hit an animal and was checking his vehicle when he was hit by another vehicle," wrote Brooks RCMP. "The vehicle which hit him did not remain on scene."

The body was identified as a 30-year-old man from Andrew, with police sending condolences to the man's family and friends.

Brooks RCMP say the investigation continues as they search for the suspect vehicle, which is believed to be a grey or silver Volkswagen with damage on the driver's side.

"If you were in the area and saw anything, or may have dash cam video from midnight to 4:30 a.m. at that location, please contact Brooks RCMP at 403-794-4400."
