The former Iyuhána Solar Project has received an update and a name change as the project will now be known as the Turning Sun Solar Project. The project, a partnership between Greenwood Sustainable Infrastructure (GSI), Saturn Power and Ocean Man First Nation, was selected by SaskPower back in January 2024 to become the largest solar installation in Saskatchewan, supplying power to the southeast.
Plans included a total generating capacity of 100 megawatts, enough power for the equivalent of approximately 25,000 homes. According to the new site launched with the rebranding, turningsolar.ca, the 550-acre site will be located around 8 kilometres southwest of Estevan, at the intersection of Range Road 2091 and Township Road 14.
The Project will utilize around 200,000 Bi-Facial solar PV modules, 27 inverters, and 1 High Voltage transformer, all enclosed in 12 kilometres of perimeter fencing. Construction is expected to begin later this year, with a completion date of 2026.
GSI stated in their LinkedIn post announcing the move that they hope to bring a successful project to the southeast.
"With continued progress towards the commencement of construction in Q4 2025, Turning Sun Solar reflects our shared commitment to sustainable energy, responsible stewardship of the land and driving economic and social prosperity in communities across Canada."
