The first day of school is almost upon us, and Kindersley students are getting a head start on Thursday to ensure the first day goes smoothly.

Westberry Elementary School, Elizabeth Middle School, and Kindersley Composite High School are each holding their own welcome back event tonight as students will have a chance to meet their teachers, drop off their books, and build some excitement for the upcoming school year.

Starting with the youngest group, Westberry students in Pre-K to Grade 4 will be treated to a BBQ outside of the school as they drop off their school supplies.

Across town at Elizabeth there won't be a BBQ with the Thursday meetup for students in Grade 5-8 taking place in the gym.

Not only will teachers be in attendance, but the School Community Council members too along with other community groups showing the kids what they are all about.

High school students, whether they are entering their first year in the big school or set to graduate, should know the drill ahead of the first day.

The KCS welcome night will offer a chance for new students, whether they are Grade 9 or new to town, to scope out their classrooms and meet their teachers before the first bell rings for real.

Tonight's just a test run ahead of Monday's calendar turn to September.

The first day of school is Tuesday, September 2 for both the Sun West School Division and Living Sky School Division. Anyone already looking forward to next summer can mark the last day of school, Wednesday, June 30, 2026.
