The Cultural Showcase was a hit at Fall on the Farm

Fall on the farm brought in a crowd on the first day of September, to celebrate harvest season and watch hard work pay off.

As the seasons begin to transition, the Mennonite Heritage Village (MHV) highlights the hard work of the pioneers through a day of demonstrations, guided tours, fresh-baked bread, and much more.

Executive Director Robert Goertzen explains the importance of putting on this celebration at the MHV.

“We are a pioneer village, and the pioneers were mostly agriculturalists, mostly farmers.”

Agriculture was brought to life with a hog butchering demonstration, and farm-fresh corn sales showcasing aspects of farm life that end up on the dinner table.

Further, Goertzen notes that celebrating the end of the fruitful summer season is tradition.

“Harvest time, fall time, is when you hopefully gather in all the fruit and crops that you've been working hard to produce all summer long. So, this is a kind of a traditional time to gather and then to celebrate.”

Fall on the Farm not only highlighted the pioneers and farmers. The Cultural Showcase included performances and food from many cultures.

With groups such as Island Dancers, Norman Chief Memorial Dancers, Punjabi Dance Group, Paraguayan Harp, and more, folks crowded the summer pavilion.

That's not all. The MHV had more to see and do, including antique tractors, a petting zoo, wagon rides, face painting and tons of activities.
