Brooks RCMP have given an update on the investigation into the death of 20-year-old Fatima Ahmed.
According to police, Ahmed was first announced as missing on Aug. 18, just four days after she had last been seen.
Just two days after her disappearance was announced, police discovered human remains in an alley near Southshore Drive in Brooks. The day after, the remains were confirmed to be those of Ahmed.
"Although a cause of death has yet to be determined, there is no indication of an ongoing risk to the public," wrote Brooks RCMP in a news release.
Alberta RCMP has also become aware of several social media posts giving erroneous information regarding the investigation.
"As members of this community, we understand the fears and anxieties that such erroneous posts can generate," added police. "RCMP are advising that citizens should take what is circulating on social media with some skepticism, especially when there has been no official police report or warning issued."
Brooks RCMP continue to work alongside the Alberta RCMP Major Crimes Unit and the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner.
