Blue Hills RCMP are investigating a tragic incident that claimed the life of a 17-year-old girl early Sunday morning.

At approximately 3:15 a.m. on August 31, 2025, officers responded to a report of a pedestrian struck by a vehicle on Road 107 West in the Rural Municipality of Cornwallis. Emergency Medical Services and the local fire department were already on scene when police arrived, providing aid to the victim. Sadly, the young woman from Brandon was pronounced dead at the scene.

Preliminary findings indicate that the victim and a 16-year-old male companion were walking along the road after leaving a nearby party when the collision occurred. The male was not injured.

The driver, a 17-year-old male from Virden, remained at the scene and was not physically harmed. Police say alcohol is not believed to be a factor in the incident.

The investigation is ongoing, with support from an RCMP Forensic Collision Reconstructionist and the Criminal Collision Investigation Team.
