Students across Saskatchewan returned to classrooms Tuesday as the 2025-26 school year officially got underway.
Education Minister Everett Hindley said the first day of school marks an important moment for students, families and educators.
“Saskatchewan schools are giving our students their best start and the start of a new school year is a memorable and an exciting experience,” Hindley said in a statement. “This is a big day for students, families and educators across the province, and I want to wish everyone a successful 2025-26 school year.”
The province said improving kindergarten to Grade 3 literacy remains a priority, with new strategies and supports being introduced for early learners. It also plans to expand Specialized Supports Classrooms by 200 over the next four years to ensure more students receive tailored assistance.
Hindley noted that the success of students relies on the combined efforts of teachers, educational assistants, parents, coaches, trustees and support staff across Saskatchewan’s 27 school divisions.
The government also reminded drivers to be mindful of traffic safety in school zones as activity around schools ramps up for the fall.
