Gordon Schatkoske of Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, passed away on August 22, 2025, at the age of 85. He was born on October 11, 1939, and grew up on a family farm north of Swift Current, Saskatchewan. Gordon attended Central Public School and graduated from SCCI in 1958.
In his youth, Gordon was an accomplished athlete, excelling in track and field, basketball, and football. He earned multiple first-place ribbons in track and field and proudly represented the southwest district at the provincial meet in Saskatoon. A highlight of his athletic years was participating in an exhibition basketball game against the Harlem Globetrotters, a memory he cherished throughout his life.
Gordon began his career with the Department of Highways before joining the Swift Current Fire Department in 1961, where he served as a full-time firefighter for 14 years. On June 9, 1962, Gordon married Shirley Hill, and together they raised two children, Kevin and Rhonda.
In 1981, Gordon and his family moved to Saskatoon, where he worked as a cabinet maker and later spent 19 years in fleet maintenance with Orchard Transport in Delisle. He retired in 2006 after a long and dedicated career.
Gordon was predeceased by his beloved wife, Shirley, in 2020 and his young daughter, Rhonda, in 1981. He is survived by his son, Kevin (Sandra), his Granddaughters, Megan (Blair), and Jordan (Brock), his sister Irene Stinson, extended family, and many friends who will remember him for his kindness, work ethic, and devotion to family.
A Service of Remembrance will be held at Faith Lutheran Church (2801 Preston Avenue South, Saskatoon, SK) on Saturday, September 20, 2025, at 10:00 am.
