With the first day of school out of the way, the high school football season officially starts today around West Central.

There are four games active in local conferences on Thursday, all starting at 4:00 PM.

Looking at 6-aside play, Kerrobert, Macklin, Biggar, and Plenty make up 1A Conference 1, while 2A Conference 1 sees Rosetown, Unity, Eatonia, and Maple Creek. 9-aside play has Conference 4 reserved for local teams in Kindersley and Delisle, part of a five-team group including North Battlefords John Paul II, Humboldt, and new entrant to the league Meadow Lake after a multi-year hiatus.

Firing up 1A 6-aside play on Thursday will be Kerrobert hosting Biggar while Plenty plays at home against Macklin, and then 2A only has one Thursday game with Eatonia hosting Rosetown. The first week of 9-aside play sees Delisle starting on a bye, and the schedule starting tonight in Humboldt as the Mohawks welcome in the JPII Crusaders.

The games continue tomorrow after school as 2A Unity will hit the road for Maple Creek to open their season. Kindersley will pass through Unity as they open the season with a road trip up to Meadow Lake, after playing an exhibition game down in Shaunavon last Friday.

It's a banner day for football fans with the NFL season also starting Thursday night in Philadelphia. Once again, catch the high school games starting at 4:00 PM.
