Sun West School Division trustees spent the summer recognizing student achievements, engaging in professional development, and preparing for the year ahead.
More than 250 students entered the annual Sun West Student Art Contest, with winners selected in four grade categories. In June, trustees presented winners from their subdivisions with framed copies of their artwork and gift cards.
Among those recognized were Lily Farden of Outlook High School, who won the Grade 10–12 category; Yevheniia Taranukha of Biggar Central School 2000, who placed first in Grades 7–9; and Jayde Dazba of Kyle Composite School, who took home top honours in PreK–Grade 3.
Trustees also helped launch the new school year at the iLearn Professional Development Day in Rosetown on Aug. 27, introducing themselves to all division teachers before the day’s sessions began.
The board met regularly over the summer, holding a full meeting on June 24, as well as Committee of the Whole meetings on June 10 and Aug. 27. Committee meetings on facilities, transportation and advocacy also took place.
Among the highlights were reviews of human resources, School Community Council reports and distance learning updates. Trustees also finalized the 2025-26 board meeting schedule and made plans to invite Saskatchewan’s education minister and local MLAs to meet with the board.
