The Biggar RCMP issued a busy first report of the month back on Monday. A total of 35 occurrences managed to hit the detachment's desk since September 1, with traffic related enforcement taking up the brunt of the calls.

So far this month local traffic services have issued tickets for speeding, unregistered vehicles, and even one for an open alcohol container in the vehicle as a total of 11 highway violators were included in the report. It was a busy week for traffic safety in general as members noticed a heavy volume of calls pertaining to various issues with people on the road.

One of those calls came on September 3 when a driver was reported as being operating a vehicle without the proper license endorsement/restriction. Another situation involved the use of engine retarder breaks in town limits; something recently pointed to by the detachment as a problem that needs to be curbed.

"Biggar RCMP conducted a patrol and is reminding truck drivers in the vicinity of Biggar to adhere to the rules governing engine retarder brake use."

The weekend was busy for the detachment.

On Friday, September 5 according to Biggar RCMP there was a minor fender bender between a pair of vehicles, a false 911 call coming via an SOS cell phone crash alert, and finally a report of a semi-trailer moving down the highway to Saskatoon with its doors wide open.  Then on Saturday, September 6 members dealt with a dispute between family members, and also a truck driving without due care and attention where the one behind the wheel was eventually contacted with no tickets being issued.

Other calls saw a missing person's report ending up positive as police found their subject safe and sound. A reported fraud turned into a civil dispute, police also dealt with two crossing malfunctions in the RM of Biggar during the week, and then another call came without an update, as police described a suspicious vehicle report from September 2 involving a semi hauling B-trains eastbound towards Kinley on Highway #14.

Wrapping up the report, two horses were reported loose on Highway #51 west of Springwater. The owner was identified and promptly contacted to learn the whereabouts of her escaped horses.

Anyone with information about these calls, or any other suspicious or crime related activity in the Biggar area can reach the detachment at (306) 948-6600, or report anonymously through Crime Stoppers.
