The annual Rotary Food Bank Drive is coming up September 11th here in Grande Prairie, with Rotary, Rotaract, Interact, and hundreds of volunteers hitting the streets to collect food in support of the Salvation Army Food Bank. It’s an event that helps local families and seniors make it through some very tough times.
Captain Peter Kim with the Salvation Army says the need has never been greater. “We’ve been serving this community for over 105 years, and right now we’re seeing more families than ever coming through our doors. Our shelves are very bare, so we desperately need this food drive to fill them back up.”
The food drive is a chance for the whole city to come together. “It is amazing to see families, clubs, sports teams, and churches all pitching in. It is really neighbors helping neighbors, and it makes a big difference for those who are struggling,” says Kim.
You can get involved by registering as a team at gpfooddrive.ca or rotarycity.ca bring a vehicle, go door to door, and help collect donations. You can also give online through the same websites if you would rather shop or donate virtually.
