Funeral Date: September 17, 2025 
Rita Klassen, 86, of Winnipeg passed away Sunday, September 7th at Donwood Manor. She is survived by her husband Peter, 2 daughters, 1 son, and their families. She was predeceased by 3 sisters, and 2 brothers. 
The funeral service for Rita Klassen will be held Wednesday, September 17th at 2pm at Eastview Community Church, 315 Maxwell King Drive, East St. Paul with burial on September 18th at 2pm at Glen Eden Cemetery. 
Viewing will be at the church one hour prior to the service. 
Donations may be made to Donwood Foundation.

Rita (Mary Ann) Klassen Obituary

Rita (Mary Ann) Klassen (nee Peters), aged 86 passed away peacefully at Donwood Manor in Winnipeg on Sunday Sept 7, 2025. She was the youngest child born to immigrant parents, Johann & Susanna (nee Peters) Peters on February 8, 1939 near Brookdale, MB & also grew up in Justice, Nesbitt, & Gretna. She was baptized upon confession of her faith at the Bergthaler Mennonite Church in Gretna in 1957. She graduated from the Manitoba Technical Institute as an LPN in 1958. She worked, making many friends along the way, at the old Concordia Hospital, Morris Hospital, & Bethesda Hospital in Steinbach, & finally at Concordia Hospital from 1975-1997 where she was laid off just short of retirement age due to healthcare cutbacks. After that, she worked in the deli at Sobey’s until her retirement.

She would marry Peter Klassen in 1971 in Steinbach and they would settle in Winnipeg and together build a loving family of 3 children and 5 grandchildren. They loved camping & built many memories & lifelong friendships with their camping group friends. Mom will be remembered for her hard working nature, amazing hospitality, love of children & her desire for her own kids to have a better life.

Rita is survived by her husband Peter; her daughter Barbara (Richard) Heck & their children Gavin & Garrett; daughter Sylvia Klassen; son Gerald (Elizabeth) Klassen & their children Randy, Carter, & Elisha. She was predeceased by her parents, brothers John & Albert, sisters Frieda, Erna & Susan.

Funeral Service is planned for Sept 17 at 2pm at Eastview Community Church. Private family internment service at Glen Eden Cemetery. Friends Funeral Service in care of arrangements.
