AUGUST STEINERT
1934 – 2025
August Edward Steinert of Altona, formerly of Woodmore, quietly took his last breath on September 9, 2025 at Altona Memorial Health Center with his family at his side. He is survived by his wife, Linda (nee Dickson) and son, Jason, brother-in-law David (Rosina) Volkenant, Linda’s family, Pat (Robert) Piche, Jim (Sandra) Dickson and their families, and many nieces and nephews. August was predeceased by his parents, David and Holdina Steinert and his nine siblings.
August was born in Maple Creek, SK on September 23, 1934. Days after his third birthday his family packed all their belongings and traveled east looking for a better life in Manitoba settling in Woodmore on the banks of the Jordan Creek. And on this land August spent his life.
He married Linda in 1983 and a year later they welcomed their son, Jason. He truly loved his family and enjoyed nothing better than spending time with them. He was so proud to see Jason farming his land and loved taking trips back to the farm to check the crops and offer advice when asked. His heart never left the country. He was a true “Old School” farmer, beginning at an early age. Learning from his father and older brothers he developed a strong work ethic; looking after his land, his animals, and his family with strength and determination until his body failed him.
With the care of Linda and his Home Care workers, friends and neighbours, August graciously accepted his new town life. During this past month August required more care first at Boundary Trails Health Center, and later spending his final days at Altona Memorial Health Center. As long as he was able to this gentle man never failed to thank all who were helping him.
His family echo these words of thanks to the staff of BTHC and Altona Hospital, his special Home Care girls, and those who took time to travel on this journey with us. For your kindness, caring, love, and support we are so grateful.
A Celebration of Life will be held Tuesday, September 16, 2:00 p.m. at Altona United Church, 45 3rd Ave SE.
In lieu of flowers, if friends so desire donations may be made to a charity of one’s choice.
