The dress rehearsals are now over for the Humboldt Broncos. The next time they compete in Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League (SJHL) action, it will count in the standings.
On the weekend, the Broncos wrapped up with the preseason with a weekend series against the Melfort Mustangs.
The home team prevailed in each contest with the Broncos winning on Friday and the Mustangs claiming the rematch on Saturday.
Jacob Strizzi led the way on Friday night with a natural hat-trick, as the Broncos shutout the Mustangs 4-0.
Charlie Tritt made 13 saves for the shutout.
Ryder Knutson rounded out the scoring for Humboldt. Jeter Korte added three assists.
The Broncos outshot the Mustangs 32-13.
Humboldt was 1/5 on the power play while Melfort was 0/5.
Saturday night saw a younger lineup from the green and gold with the Mustangs defeating the Broncos 3-2.
Trailing 1-0, Kayson Christian tied the game for the Broncos after his attempted pass was deflected in the Melfort net.
The Mustangs went ahead 3-1 in the second period before Simon Ward cut the deficit to 3-2.
Humboldt couldn’t find the equalizer in the third period, as Melfort hung out for the win.
Nick Kotai made 30 saves. The Mustangs outshot the Broncos 33-20.
Humboldt was 0/3 on the power play.
Next action for the Broncos will be the season opener against the Warman Wolverines in the franchise's first ever SJHL regular season game.
