The Saskatchewan Horse Federation is inviting the general public to attend its next event in Moose Jaw free of charge.
Between Friday, September 19 and Sunday, September 21, the Heritage Circuit Provincial Finals will take place at the city’s Exhibition Grounds. Things will get going at 8:00 a.m. each morning and continue until 5:00 p.m.
As Horse Federation president and acting executive director Linda Tiefanbach explains, the Provincial Finals will showcase events in both English and Western classes.
“We start off with draws on the English side, but there’s also Western Dressage, which people might not be aware of,” she says. “We have Western Performance; we have a Ranch division; we have Hack classes. We also have Hunter, which is of course jumping over fences. Then we have the speed classes that everyone loves, because anything against the clock is always entertaining. Finally, we have Exhibition and Junior horse classes.”
As a grassroots organization, the Horse Federation seeks to keep its events accessible and affordable to participants. It also ensures it’s giving ample opportunities to both seasoned and junior competitors. The Heritage Circuit, which includes this Provincial Finals, is designed to facilitate athlete development while adhering to high standards of safety and fair play.
Tiefanbach estimates that 50 or 60 participants will compete in Moose Jaw.
“They go to various shows throughout the year, but this is one that the Horse Federation puts together and is a culmination for all these individuals,” she says.
For the Horse Federation, the Provincial Finals represents a chance to generate and maintain interest and participation across Saskatchewan – from athletes to breeders and coaches. And, of course, among the general public, who can attend this weekend's equestrian showcase for free.
“It is absolutely free of charge,” says Tiefanbach. “We’re just happy to have people come out and experience the equine sport world.
