With just over a month until the municipal election, candidates have been announcing reelection plans, putting up signs, and talking to voters.

One of those people is Richard Wegener, who is trying to make it back to the council chambers for a second term.

"I ran four years ago, and I was fortunate enough to get a seat on council. Over those four years, I've worked on a lot of projects that have served the public and there are still some of the projects that we have on the go that I want to see to completion. I'm hoping for another term so I can get those projects worked on," explained Wegener.

Over his first term, Wegener has served on committees such as the Wheatland Housing Management Board and the Wheatland Regional Emergency Management Board.

Wegener explains why he wants to be reelected.

"I would like to serve Strathmore again because I think it is a great community that we live in. We've got that small-town feel, and the people here deserve representation."

"I feel that I have been listening over the past four years to what people have to say when it comes to my votes in council."

If re-elected, Wegener will work to make Strathmore a medical hub.

"I would like to work with a senior leadership team, and that's because about two years ago, Mayor Fule and the senior leadership team discussed a medical hub, which would be a great idea. It would bring in doctors, it would bring in specialization, and it would just help with the community," explained Wegener.

"Another thing I'm going to be working on is a month or so ago, I put forward a motion to explore a partnership between the town, Golden Hill School Division and Westmount School to build and install another ice arena."

Wegener has called Wheatland County and Strathmore his home since 1995.

Every year, he also holds his annual charity challenge, raising money for local organizations.
