A locally raised athlete ran in a half-marathon over the weekend, with proceeds from the run going to Special Olympics Alberta to support sporting programs for individuals with intellectual disabilities.
The Lethbridge Police Charity Road Run took place this past Saturday, with the starting line at the Sandman Signature Hotel and the finish at the Police Gun Range.
Swift Current's Kateryna de Klerk shared that her time finishing the half-marathon was around an hour and 53 minutes.
"It went a lot better than I thought, I didn't really prepare for it, so it was kind of cool to see how I'm becoming more of a natural runner," she said. "It was a lot of fun having people I know come out and support, my local run club was out there, so it was really nice."
According to Race Roster, the run this year was nearly full, with 693 participants of a 700 participant limit.

"I love being able to do these runs and raise money or donate to a cause," de Klerk added. "It's so special, and it just brings a different meaning to the run, so I love when organizations put these on."
Runners participating in the half-marathon took off at 8:00 a.m., while a 10-kilometre run began at 8:05 a.m., and a five-kilometre run kicked off at 8:10 a.m.
"In Lethbridge, we have all these coulees, so the route is kind of flat and then all of a sudden it dips down and there are all these beautiful hills," she detailed. "We went through downtown and ended in the coulee."
