The province is calling on the public to put forward names for the 2026 Saskatchewan Order of Merit, an honour that recognizes exceptional contributions to the province.

“Being invested with the Order of Merit is an unequalled tribute from the Crown and the people of Saskatchewan,” Lieutenant Governor Bernadette McIntyre said in a release. “Members of the Order are innovators, groundbreakers and leaders who have positively impacted our province in countless ways. However, for these remarkable people to be acknowledged, they first must be nominated.”

Established in 1985, the award honours individuals who have made significant contributions in areas such as agriculture, business, community leadership, public service, the arts, research and volunteerism.

Nominees must be current or former long-term residents of Saskatchewan. Nominations can be submitted by individuals or groups, though they must recognize a person rather than an organization. Posthumous nominations will be considered within one year of a nominee’s death.

Recipients of the 2026 award will be invested at a ceremony next year, with members granted the right to use the post-nominal letters S.O.M. The honour is part of the Canadian Honours System.

The nomination deadline is Nov. 30, 2025. Submissions can be made online, by mail, courier, or in person. More information is available here.
