The 2025 True Patriot Love Canadian Walk for Veterans drew record numbers in Prince Albert, with participation more than doubling from previous years. Families, community members, and local leaders joined the event on what was described as a “perfect day” to honour Canada’s Veterans.

The morning began with the Prince Albert Royal Canadian Legion Branch #2 Colour Party leading a procession, followed by the singing of O Canada. Elder Emile Highway, a Second World War veteran and current president of the Prince Albert Branch of the Saskatchewan First Nations Veterans Association, shared reflections that set the tone for the day.

Greetings were also offered by the Honourable Alana Ross on behalf of Premier Scott Moe and the Province of Saskatchewan, and by Prince Albert Mayor Bill Powalinsky.

More than 45 participants of all ages walked through Kinsmen Park, pausing at significant points along the route to reflect on the service and sacrifice of Canadian Veterans. This year’s walk also marked several milestones: the 80th anniversary of the end of the Second World War, the 75th anniversary of Canada’s involvement in the Korean War, and the 170th anniversary of the Canadian Army.

Organizers noted the importance of community engagement, highlighting the presence of first responders and members of the public who joined in the tribute.

“We are grateful to see the increased participation this year — especially the number of active first responders and members of the public who joined us to honour our Veterans,” the organizers said.

The event emphasized a spirit of togetherness, as residents came together to celebrate the service of Veterans and support those who continue to serve, including individuals carrying the unseen burdens of military life.
