Archie Wagamese May 16, 1944 - December 25, 2021
Archie passed away at his home on a snowy Christmas morning Saturday, December 25, 2021. He was 77 years old.
He leaves behind to mourn his passing his daughter, Melvina and is survived by one last sibling his brother David Wagamese.
A residential School Survivor who attended Cecilia Jeffery Indian Residential School in his early years, Archie was a man of few words. Although it did take him some time to warm up to you his humour and his inner child always came to light sooner than later.
Through out hi years growing up on the Winnipeg River where he loved to spend his time, he grew to call the tight knit community of Niisaachewan Anishinaabe Nation (The Dalles) his home where all his close family, relative/friends reside, but still wasn't too far from his familiar stomping grounds on Minaki, Ontario. Being a fishing guide in the area, he built some everlasting relationships with his close friends Peter Barber, Derek, Alec and Brian Rheauit. As one of the eldest and active elders in the community, Archie had a soft spot with many that lived nearby and you could often catch him sitting outside on his front step watching the traffic, and passerby's enjoying nice sunny days. He also loved his hockey games, country music, western movies, random visits and especially his sweets and treats.
He will be greatly missed by many of his nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews which are too many to mention, but held a close bond to his niece great nieces Aubree and Hailee in his later years. His nephew in law Gary Beardy who also helped and checked up on him regularly, they made good efforts to make sure they were a phone call away.
Archie was predeceased by his parents Flora and John Wagamese, followed by siblings and other family members, Joe Wagamese, Charlie Wagamese, Horse Wagamese, Gilbert Wagamese, Jimmy Wagamese, Betty Ann Wagamese, Marjorie Nabish (Wagamese), Elizabeth Massie (Wagamese), Elsie Wagamese, Mary Smith (Wagamese), niece Catherine Bird, nephew Richard Wagamese, great niece Emily Wagamese and his common law wife Annie Boucher.
A Wake Service will begin on Wednesday, December 29, 2021 at 12:00 (noon) at Niisaachewan Anishinaabe Nation Economic of Excellence Auditorium. Funeral Service will be held on Friday, December 31, 2021 at 11:00 am with Pastor Robert Wittmeier officiating.
Archie's wishes were to be cremated and laid to rest by his mother, burial will take place in the Spring of 2022.
