Norman Bunting

JULY 18, 1947 – JANUARY 3, 2022

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our father, grandfather, brother and uncle Norman (Piizshew) Bunting at the Lake of the Woods District Hospital on January 3, 2022, at the age of 74. He was part of the Loon Clan.

Norman is predeceased by his parents Jim & Ida Bunting, grandparents Jacob and Annie McDonald, Sister Josephine, Brothers John, Gordon, and George, aunts Grace Henry and Alice Fisher, uncles Cornelius, Simon, and George McDonald Sr., Nieces, Hushie, Annette, Elizabeth, Allison, and Nephew Barrett, Cousins Art, George, Cyrena, and Sharon.

Norman is survived by his children Harvey (April), Darnell, Elaine, David, his sister Mary and his brother James, grandchildren Logan, Isaiah, Teresa, Daylon, Ethan, Gracie, Malik, Kennedy, Jalaynee, Sable, and Dwayne. Nieces and Nephews Rocky (Gretchen), Darlene (Larry), Harvey (Santina), Adrian (Melanie), Brandon (Judy), Jennifer (Mike), David (Cheyenne), Ronnie, Joanne, Ramona, Valene (Cullen) Elaine, Candice, Nadine, Joni, Jazanne, John Jr, and Jeonni.

Norman loved fishing and hunting and would often ask family if they went out. He enjoyed his wild meat, traditional teachings and enjoyed his drives even when he’s told not to go. Norman played hockey and worked as a guide for Whitedog. Norman would help family in any way he can. He loved his family and would often ask how the family is doing. He also lived in Little Black River for a couple of years.

Miigwech to Wiigwas Elders and Senior Care nursing staff and Lake of the Woods District Hospital ICU department for the care of Norman and keeping him as comfortable as possible.

It will be closed casket service. Wake services will begin at Mizhakiiwetung Memorial School Gymnasium on Thursday, January 6, 2022 at 1:00pm. Traditional Funeral Service will be officiated by Elder Ron Indian Mandamin on Saturday, January 8, 2022 at 11:00 a.m. with interment to follow.

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, we are only allowing family members to be present for the wake services. Friends and acquaintances of Norman can pay their respects at the funeral service on Saturday. Please note that all attendees must follow COVID protocols that include social distancing, sanitization and wearing your masks at all times.
