Gladys Klobuch (Wlodyslowa nee Gajewski)
Born August 3, 1930 in Czudec, Poland to Wawrzymiec and Rozalia Gajewski, entered eternal rest on January 21, 2022 at the age of 91.
Gladys immigrated to Canada 1960 as a single woman, where she found the love of her life Ben Klobuch (1992) who, after a short courtship, made her his wife that same year. She became a Canadian citizen in December 1967.
Survived by many relatives around the world, locally here in Kenora, many in Poland, and some peppered throughout Canada, France and the United States. Gladys was particularly close to her late brother Stefan's son, also Stefan and his family of Jawornik, Poland.
With only a Grade 2 education, Gladys taught herself to read and write in English, while working as a short order cook at the bus station in Kenora. We can say she had her own dialect which was cute and accurate if you were able to keep up with her. (E.g. rice = Chinese potatoes, porkchops = piggy chops, hot dogs = puppy dogs)!
Gladys was proud member the Royal Canadian Legion at both the Kenora and Keewatin Branches. Love for God, our Saviour Jesus Christ, and the church were paramount to her. She was a member of Notre Dame du Portage Parish and lived out her faith through fervent prayer, fidelity to attendance at Mass, active membership in the parish based Catholic Women's League well into her late 70s and early 80s. She belonged to many prayers groups and had a deep devotion to the Blessed Virgin Mary.
In the spring of 2018, Gladys became a resident at Birchwood Terrace, then moved to Dryden's Princess Court, Home for the Aged where she remained until her death.
Visitation will take place at Notre Dame du Portage Church, Kenora on Thursday, January 27, 2022 at 10:00 am followed by a funeral mass at 11:00 am then burial at the Lake of the Woods Cemetery. Mass will be celebrated by her friend Rev. Alan Campeau.
In lieu of flowers, donations to the Bishop's Diocesan Ministry Campaign at either Notre Dame du Portage Church in Kenora, or St. Joseph Church in Dryden would be greatly appreciated.
