Irene Cowley September 10, 1950 - February 20, 2022 Kaagigegiizhigook 'Everlasting Day Woman'
Irene passed away peacefully on Sunday, February 20, 2022 at the Lake of the Woods District Hospital.
Irene was a resident and member of Animakee Wa Zhing 37, she was 71 years of age.
She was predeceased by her husband Paul Cowley, her daughters Jennifer Cameron and Martina Morrison, her parents Peterson and Evelyn Nash, her sisters Eva, Baby, Linda, Nancy, Dorothy and Peggy Nash, Adeline Roy and Stella Keast. She was also predeceased by her uncle Charlie Nash, nephews Andrew Nash and Mike Roy, nieces Ariel Nash and Holly Keast, brother in laws Thomas and Louis Roy and Eric Keast, her great grandson Khaydon, as well as many other relatives and friends too numerous to mention.
She is survived by her children and their families: daughter Samantha and her family MacKenzie, Kelsi and Sidney, daughter Mary Anne, daughter Shannon and her daughter Shaylynne, son Tim (Roberta) and their children Joseph (Stacey) and their children Jennifer and Jasmine, Jeffrey and his children Donald, Stedman, Ciao, Randy and Eric, son David (Tammy) and their children Sarain, Robert and Sheldon, son Paul 'Benji', her stepdaughter Priscilla and her family Rheannon (Javier), Elvin, Kelvin and Lee and aunt Nora Nash, as well as many other relatives and friends too numerous to mention.
Irene enjoyed her trips to the Casino's, Bingo and was an avid fan of the Toronto Maple Leaf's and Toronto Blue Jays. Her pride and joy were all of her family, but she especially enjoyed spending time with all of her grandchildren, she loved watching 'Chick Flicks' on Netflix.
She worked at AKRC for 15 years as the membership clerk aka 'Status card lady', she was also the bookkeeper for AKRC. Prior to working at AKRC, she worked for Whitefish Bay Education Authority, she graduated from Confederation College completing her Business Administration Degree and then furthered her education, upgrading and graduating from Seven Generation's College.
We would like to thank the Dr.'s, nurses and staff at Lake of the Woods District Hospital, her PSW's and nurses from WHNAC for all of her home care, also to Chief and Council of Animakee Wa Zhing for all of their support, to the Trading Post, AKRC, Rhonda Nash, Don Kavanaugh and family prevention, and to Cory Jinkerson and staff at Brown Funeral Home & Cremation Centre.
A wake service for Irene will be held Thursday, February 24, 2022 at 2:00 pm at Animakee Wa Zhing Community Hall. A funeral service will be held on Friday, February 25, 2022 at 11:00 am at Animakee Wa Zhing Community Hall with burial to follow.
