Leslie Bunn

SEPTEMBER 2, 1955 – FEBRUARY 24, 2022

On the evening of February 24, 2022, Leslie John Bunn of Kenora, with his partner and children by his side, passed away at the Lake of the Woods District Hospital at the age of 66 years.

Les grew up in Lakeside and at the tender age of 16 (and not quite truthful about his age) got a job with the railroad working on the "steel gang". Although he wasn't there long, he spoke of it often. "I've never had a colder glass of water than from the mountains." He delivered milk for Lakeland Dairies and finally in 1975 took a job with what would be later known as Abitibi Consolidated as a Papermaker where he eventually retired.

He was a golfer, a curler, a fisherman and played left wing for the Kenora Muskies (and had the battle scars to prove it...he never did get that tooth fixed!). It was his love of the game that led him to coach novice hockey players later in life. A good movie on TCM, watching a football game or car racing, enjoying a beer or two with friends down at the Legion or listening to music like CCR and Mountain (good 'ol music he would say) was his way of relaxing but his passion was cooking. He loved, loved, loved to cook. Mmmm those ribs! He loved to laugh and tease, build things, fix things and lend a hand or lend a tool (and he had a tool for every job) to anyone who asked. He adored his grandchildren and would light-up during their face-time conversations that he so looked forward to.

As his health steadily declined, Les never complained and his positive outlook on life allowed him to make the best of any difficult situation that was thrown his way. He endured many challenges and bravely faced them all. Truly an inspiration.

He will be forever and lovingly remembered by his partner of over 30 years, Janice Miller, his children Desiree Bunn (Joel Fullmer) of Kelowna B.C., Chantel Bunn (Morgan Hyatt) of Wainfleet ON., James Bunn (Belinda Chicago); grandchildren Cameron, Marshal, Mackenzie, Giselle and Emersyn; brothers Kevin Bunn and Warren Bunn; sisters-in-law Lynne (Garry) Edlund, Alanna (Pat) Gurica, Anita Miller; father-in-law and mother-in-law Alan and Carole Miller and countless friends and extended family members.

Les was predeceased by his parents Edwin and Bernice Bunn.

Our family wishes to extend our gratitude to Dr. Wehner and the 2E and 3E nurses and staff for their care and compassion. And a thank you to the dialysis nurses and staff for their happy and caring attitudes. You made his treatments just a little bit easier. Thanks also to the Handi Transit drivers for getting him to his appointments safely and on time and to Palliative Care Worker, Char Melillo, who's kindness and efforts will never be forgotten.

Donations may be made to Diabetes Canada, 1300-522, University Ave., Toronto ON, M56 2R5

As per Les's request, cremation has taken place and a Celebration of Life will take place at a later date.

Thank you for all the memories, the good times, your kind heart, respectful nature...and your smile. Forever missed, never forgotten and always in our hearts.

Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared at www.brownfuneralhomekenora.com for the Bunn family.
