Lamont County is taking further steps to support Ukraine.
On Tuesday (Mar. 8), council approved a $5,000 donation in support of humanitarian aid to the war-torn country.
The donation was given to the Canada Ukraine Foundation and will be a part of the 2022 budget.
"We're the cradle of Ukrainian settlement in Canada. We've got that strong Ukrainian background, including original settlers from Ukraine and many of our residents have family friends in Ukraine that may be at risk," explained Jay Zaal with the county.
The county also issued a challenge to other communities in the surrounding area to provide support for humanitarian aid. Zaal stated the best way to help is to give financial help or donate needed supplies.
“Lamont County is proud of the support raised both here and abroad to provide much-needed aid and to stop this war,” said Lamont County reeve, David Diduck.
The county also collected donations during their Ukrainian flag-raising ceremony on Mar. 4.
