SEPTEMBER 20, 1940 – APRIL 19, 2022

Marilyn Hanstead (nee Christianson)

With her family by her side, Marilyn Hanstead passed away on April 19, 2022 at the age of 81.

She is mourned by her three sons Mitchell, Murray (Candra) and Darryl (Sheila) as well as her loved grandchildren Owen, Audrey, Grace and Ella. She will be greatly missed by her sisters Lois Christianson, Gail Johnson and Cheryl (Allan) Petrie as well as her brother-in-law Phil Hanstead, sister-in-law Donna (Jack) Bonville, the Schroder and Warrilow cousins, and many nieces and nephews.

Marilyn had unexpectedly lost her loving husband Bryan in 1996 after 27 years of a wonderful marriage. She was also predeceased her parents Carl & Ellen Christianson, stepmother Pearl Christianson, mother-in-law Bernice Hanstead, and brother-in-laws Harold “Jr.” Johnson, Mel Hanstead, Warren Hanstead, and Lloyd “Butch” Hanstead.

Marilyn was born in 1940 and grew up in Keewatin with her 3 sisters. After completing the commercial program at Kenora Keewatin District High School, she worked in the office at the Mando paper mill and then moved away for jobs in Saskatoon and Winnipeg. She returned to Keewatin and married Bryan in 1968 where they raised their 3 sons. Bryan and Marilyn enjoyed many fun times camping at Rushing River, fishing at Quandary Bay, and cruising the Caribbean. After losing Bryan, she continued to spend her time curling, golfing, walking and going for coffee, and spending any time she could with family and friends. She has also continued work as the bookkeeper for Bryan and then Mitchell’s Old Dutch Foods business, which she did for the past 54 years.

She and her family were grateful for the excellent care she received from Dr. Wehner and all the staff at the hospital. In her memory, donations to the Lake of the Woods District Hospital Foundation would be greatly appreciated.

A Celebration of Marilyn’s Life will be held this summer with details to be announced at a later date.
