Police have arrested a 19-year-old after an incident in Westpark.
On Sunday (May 1), the Fort Saskatchewan RCMP responded to a robbery in progress at a business on Westpark Boulevard. Reportedly, the targeted store was Liquor House.
Upon arrival, officers say they found a customer holding down the suspect behind the business counter and a store employee, whose face had been injured.
"It was determined this male was assaulted with a baton-style weapon and was working at the business at the time of the assault," the RCMP said in a release.
Officers also searched the suspect's backpack and found $200 that had been taken from the cash register.
Tyler Manitopyes of Fort Saskatchewan has been charged with:
- Robbery with an offensive weapon
- Aggravated assault
- Possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose
- Fail to comply with a release order (x2)
Manitopyes was remanded into custody after a hearing and is scheduled to appear in Fort Saskatchewan Provincial Court on Thursday.
As this matter is now before the court, no further updates are anticipated.
