For the fourth year in a row, the Taking it to the Streets concert presented by Bumper to Bumper and friends will be returning to Swift Current this summer.
This year's event will take place on August 20th at the Kinetic Park grandstand stage and co-event coordinator, Leanne Tuntland- Wiebe who is working along with Carol Beyer, provides details on this year's main act.
"We do, we managed to hook Gord Bamford. We have been tossing the idea around of inviting him to come. He is a big-ticket item to bring in but he has a local connection. His wife is actually from Herbert. So we thought maybe with that little connection we could maybe bump Gord and convince him to come here. I talked to him and he is very happy to come and he's going to put on a great show."
Joining Bamford will be performers Duane Steele and Karissa Hoffart.
Tuntland- Wiebe says that Armstrong Implements has come on as a partner for the event this year and it would not be possible without all of the businesses that have come on board to help.
In addition, Tuntland Wiebe provides details on a new addition to this year's event.
"This year new we are bringing in Food Truck Wars and they are going to be in the parking lot of Kinetic Park. So we are combining two big events."
Tickets will be $20 and are going on sale as of June 1st and will be available at City Hall, Market Square, Bumper to Bumper, Pharmasave, and the Swift Current Ag & Ex.
Reflecting on the success of the event over the past four years Tuntland-Wiebe says that when they started this, they didn't know it would take off and those sponsors would continue to support it. They were able to do concerts during COVID such as the Justin Labrash drive-in concert which Tuntland-Wiebe says was huge because people could come out and be safe and stay in their cars. She says this year they will continue to take precautions.
Last year's event raised $8000 for the Swift Current Ag & Ex and they hope to raise even more this year to donate to local organizations.
On the evening of the event, gates will open at 6 pm with the concert beginning at 7 pm.
