A free community shredding event is taking place on Saturday (May 7) at the First Memorial Funeral Services Riverview Chapel.
From 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., a secure shredding truck will be on-site to help people get rid of boxes stacked with paper 30 lbs. or less.
Shredding documents that contain sensitive personal information is a great way to protect against identity theft.
"Last year, we had a flatbed truck that showed up where we had over 200 boxes," Neil Campbell-Wallwork, the location manager at First Memorial, said.
There is no limit on how much you can bring, but everyone is encouraged to bring a donation to support The Fort Saskatchewan Food Bank.
"We ask people to stay in their cars and let our team facilitate getting everything out of the car," Campbell-Wallwork added.
According to the Government of Alberta, some of the best ways to avoid being a victim of this crime are to cut up expired credit cards, use complex passwords online and lock your household mailbox.
First Memorial Funeral Services Riverview Chapel is located at 11090 86 Avenue.
