The Reeve for the Municipality of Montcalm says he is disappointed with this week's rainy forecast.
A low-pressure system was expected to bring widespread rainfall amounts of 20 to 30 mm yesterday to areas of Southern Manitoba already dealing with saturated soils and flooding concerns.
Paul Gilmore says this extra moisture is definitely not necessary, and he is disappointed there is more in the forecast throughout the week.
Gilmore noted this rainy situation will prolong the crest of the Red River and lead to further overland flooding, noting the longer the water takes to recede the longer it'll be before crops get put in the ground.
He says officials are anxious for the peak to arrive.
According to Manitoba's Hydrologic Forecast Centre's update posted on Sunday, the Red River was expected to peak in St. Jean between Sunday and Tuesday. The river at Letellier and St. Jean has already hit 2011 levels, posting 784.84 feet and 781.84 feet respectively as of Sunday.
Meantime, Gilmore says he was pleased to hear the Province announce a Disaster Financial Assistance program on Monday.
