A Fort Saskatchewan peace officer is trying to raise money for STARS.
Chelsea Eshpeter has had a few experiences with STARS in the past. The air ambulance was called twice for her father, the second time on May 25 of last year when he suffered esophageal bleeding.
She said the crew did everything they could to keep him alive, so his family had the chance to say goodbye.
"Unfortunately, my dad was not able to make it, but just the fact that they go above and beyond every single day for situations like my dad's... [working] for emergency response services, you're either directly or indirectly affected by STARS at some point in time," Eshpeter said.
Inspired by her story, municipal enforcement and emergency services in Fort Saskatchewan will hold a fundraiser to raise money for STARS. They are putting on a 30-minute walk at West River's Edge and accepting donations from participants. Water and snacks will be provided.
"It's better to do something positive with a negative situation," explained Eshpeter. "[My dad] had a heart of gold, and he was the 'give the shirt off his back' type of person. So I think he definitely is looking down and thinking this is pretty cool."
They were able to track down one of the paramedics that helped Eshpeter's father that night, and they will be attending to meet with the family.
