A concert in support of Ukraine is coming to the Shell Theatre.
Fort Saskatchewan’s Carol Slukynski is part of an organising committee for Hello Ukraine, a Ukrainian song and dance showcase supporting Ukraine. A similar concert in St. Albert saw tickets sell out within 25 minutes.
“They crashed the system and ended up offering a virtual option, which also sold hundreds of tickets. With that, they raised over $100,000,” Slukynski said.
The concert will include a series of performances, with renowned Ukrainian dance companies, Shumka, Cheremosh, Volya, Viter, Dunai, and Vohon coming together to raise funds and celebrate Ukrainian culture. Also joining the performance is the Verkhovya Ukrainian Choir.
Proceeds from the concert will go toward supporting the Hosting Ukrainians in Fort Saskatchewan (HUFS) committee. HUFS aims to facilitate receiving and hosting Ukrainians displaced by the war into local households and provide the newcomers with practical support to ease their integration into the community.
“We are going to be showcasing over 150, up to 200 performers that travel and perform all over the world. [They’re] coming to our community in solidarity with our efforts.”
Hello Ukraine will take place June 26 at 7 p.m. Tickets go on sale Friday (May 13) at noon. People can reserve tickets at the Shell Theatre box office or online at shelltheatre.ca. Tickets can also be purchased through Ticketpro.ca at 1-888-655-9090 or online here.
