Justin Gabinet, a foods teacher at Archbishop Jordan Catholic High School, has appeared on the Food Network program Wall of Bakers.

Gabinet has held a passion for food at a young age, with his family instilling in him the importance of good food. Growing up with this dedication, Gabinet turned to education, where he was given an opportunity to teach food classes to today's youth.

Through Alberta Home Economics Association, Gabinet was called upon by one of his food heroes, Julie Van Roosendal, from CBC. She told him that he should apply to appear on the Food Network, while the other teachers encouraged the idea.

Gabinet decided to send in his application, and after several months of trials, he was flown out to Toronto, where he got to compete.

"Going on set was wild," Gabinet said. "You would never realize how hot lights can be until you're under the spotlight on a cooking competition."

Unfortunately, Gabinet only made it halfway through the competition. After a mishap making choux pastry, Gabinet's cream puffs took on a consistency more akin to a doughnut. After the judges deliberated, Gabinet was voted off the show in its second round.

Despite the loss, Gabinet still looks back fondly at being on the show.

"It was one of the most fun and endearing experiences of my life."

Gabinet's episode, entitled Leverage the Beverage, aired May 2 on Food Network Canada.
