A man is facing multiple charges after assaulting a police officer.

Just before 5 p.m. on Monday (May 16), RCMP received a complaint about a man stumbling into traffic while crossing the Highway 15 bridge in Fort Saskatchewan.

Once police arrived, they found the man walking on the side of the highway, where he refused to identify himself and became verbally and physically confrontational. RCMP say a fight took place, which resulted in minor injuries to the police officer.

With the assistance of another police officer and a passerby who stopped to assist, the man was taken into custody.

Dakota Noel, 22, of Sylvan Lake, has been charged with assaulting a police officer and obstructing a police officer. In addition, he was arrested on outstanding warrants from Calgary, Edmonton, and Red Deer.

Noel was remanded into custody and is scheduled to appear in court Thursday.

Fort Saskatchewan RCMP asks that anyone who saw the incident or assisted call the detachment at 780-997-7900.
