Dow is celebrating its 125th anniversary.
In honour of the anniversary, Dow Fort Saskatchewan employees will volunteer in a community clean-up event on May 26, and the Kids Can Catch fishing event on June 5 at West Rivers Edge. This is part of the global serve-a-thon initiative Dow is running for all its employees; last year, employees volunteered over 2,000 hours across Canada.
"We want to make our home a better place," said Michael Liu, public affairs lead for Alberta at Dow Canada.
The material science company has been operating in Alberta for 61 years. Locations in this province primarily focus on producing polyethylene, a flexible synthetic resin mainly used for packaging materials. There are 600 employees and 300 contractors at Dow in Fort Saskatchewan.
"We continue to look for opportunities to partner with our communities in meaningful ways. The Dow Centennial Centre is one example of our collaboration with the city of Fort Saskatchewan," explained Liu.
Local Dow employees will participate in other events this summer, including Fort Saskatchewan Pride Month, Canada Day celebrations, and the Fort Saskatchewan Farmer's Market.
"Employee volunteerism connects us to the community. You will likely continue to see Dow employees out there in the neighbourhoods this year," added Liu.
