Going on now until June 22nd at Prairie Fusion Arts & Entertainment, the Portage Ukrainian Nursery School is exhibiting their 10th Annual Art Show and Auction.

Lori Carpenter, the director at the nursery school, talks about the show's history.

"We started our art show about ten years ago, and we had always done our displays in the auditorium at Trinity United Church, which was a lovely facility for it. Then, when COVID came, we moved some of it to the art center so people could see it there. Last year, we had all of our items there exclusively. This year, we did a hybrid display model. So, we did two afternoons at Trinity United in the auditorium. I think we had about 250 people come through the display, and then on Monday morning, we took it all to the Prairie Fusion Arts & Entertainment and set it up in the main gallery there. So, it will be there from now until the 22nd of June."

Carpenter explains that each child did four projects.

  • Watercolour/Self-Portraits (children were given mirrors, plain paper, small clipboards and permanent markers and tasked with drawing pictures of themselves.)
  • Holton Rower Paintings (created by pouring up to 50 gallons of rainbow-coloured paints over variously configured blocks and panels of plywood.)
  • The Paper Lantern Project (the experience of painting on a three-dimensional object.)
  • The Parent Painting Project (parents and kids share a canvas.)

Carpenter adds that she highly recommends people go and have a look at the art pieces and read the stories that go along with the parent projects.
